A. J. Pierzynski, a 19-year MLB veteran, will receive the Lou Boudreau Hall of Fame Award at our 77th Annual Banquet.

Pierzynski joined the White Sox in 2005 and spent eight seasons on the South Side. In the 2005 playoffs he was a major player for the White Sox. He batted .262 and slugged 3 HR’s and drove in 11 runs.

Perhaps his biggest and well-known play came in game 2 of the ALCs against the Angels. Down1-0 in the series and the game tied 1-1 in the bottom of the ninth, Pierzynski famously stuck out on a low ball in the dirt. Thinking they had ended the inning, the Angels proceeded to walk off the field; however, noting the home plate umpire had not made the out call, Pierzynski ran down the first base line and was called safe. The White Sox won the game on a walk off double to tie the series. They went on to win the next three games to win the series and then sweep the Astros to win their first World Championship since 1917.

Pierzynski finished his career with a .280 BA, 2,043 hits, 188 HR’s and 909 RBI’s. He is currently and analyst for FOX MLB game of the week and is a main host on the Foul Territory Podcast with Erik Kratz and Scott Braun.
